Heavyweight Cotton: The Weight, the Fit, and the Structure

Weight decides how a T-shirt hangs. Most people choose by colour or graphic, but fabric weight and fit are what give a shirt its character long after the print stops being new. A lightweight tee clings to the body and loses its shape after a few washes. A heavyweight shirt drapes cleanly, frames the shoulders, and keeps a sharp silhouette through hours of wear. That difference, between a shirt that collapses against you and one that holds its own line, is the reason fabric weight matters in everyday wear.

The Freestyler STTU788 is our baseline T-shirt: 240 g/m², 100% organic open-end cotton, GOTS certified. The weight gives the shirt structure. The fabric does not collapse against the body. It drapes independently of your shape, providing a clean, reliable unisex fit. Open-end cotton feels slightly dry and crisp, not soft and clingy. It hangs straight, which means it works under a blazer as easily as on its own. That combination, structure plus a dry hand feel, is what separates heavyweight cotton from the thin, stretchy tees most brands sell. You feel the difference the moment you put it on.

For maximum weight, the Hazener reaches 370 g/m². Combed organic cotton, interlock knit, closer to a light sweatshirt than a T-shirt. It is stiff and boxy by design. One colour: Pebble Blue. The Hazener is for people who want the heaviest tee possible, something that holds its shape even after hours of continuous wear and movement. The interlock construction gives it a different feel from the Freestyler: denser, more rigid, with a texture you notice as soon as you pick it up.

Sizing is simpler than most brands make it. Ignore body-measurement charts. Lay your favourite T-shirt flat on a table and measure from armpit to armpit. That half-chest number is the one that determines fit. Compare it with the size guide on the product page. The Freestyler has a relaxed unisex cut, a straight line from chest to hem. Choose your normal size for that cut. Size down for a closer fit. No guessing, no conversion tables, no tape measure wrapped around your chest. One measurement, one comparison, done.

A heavier fabric keeps the print flat and readable all day. The statement stays visible. The shape stays sharp. The shirt wears like a real garment, not like an undershirt with a graphic on it. That is the point of 240 g/m².
